We have used Norton products to protect and backup our desktops, laptops, Androids, and our Network Attached Storage (NAS) since the 1990's, when they were Symantec in Eugene.
We had just paid this year's annual fee for 5 licenses.
... Norton apparently updated Norton 360 in the latter part of 2024, and our online payment triggered and upgraded the software to Version 24.x. This version DOES NOT allow storing and/or retrieving encrypted backups to/from our NAS.
One of our laptops had a technical problem, and needed to be restored. And the new version of Norton 360 would not restore that laptop!! And Norton.com had no solution to restoring their encrypted files. Calling Norton is like trying to call the President. The phone tree is designed like the newest version, to SELL us something that we do not need! I eventually was able to speak with someone, who could not and did not help me. I threatened to drop Norton, which I will now, and they lowered my rate and refunded the difference.
I searched various forums, and finally found one that explained that I would have to find an old copy of Norton 360, 22.x, or older, and even then have a time restoring the files/folders.
WHAT A PAIN!!!
I tried doing installing an older version, but the current version of Norton 360 would not allow us to go backwards!! And I was cautious that further endeavors on our part might lose years of valuable files/folders.
I called Lucas, and he quickly created a work around, and saved our files.
If you run into a situation like we did, we highly recommend using Zum Computer Services!
AND WE PLAN ON ... NO LONGER USING NORTON'S PRODUCTS!
